Season 2020/21 is over. It was e real rollercoaster for the fans. They got back to the stadiums in the winter, then got kicked out again. For the last two rounds the fans were back in the stadiums again and we all hope this time they’ll stay. The feeling of the games is totally different even though it’s not in full capacity. There were big winners and losers of the seasons. There were lots of surprises, as always in the Premier league. We saw new starts shine, we saw legends say goodbye to their teams.

Champions
Manchester city were crowned Champions of England for 7th time. The citizens started the campaign really slow and tough, but once they put on the gear there was no stopping them. A proper sending of for their top goal-scorer in club’s history - Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian striker will be remembered as the man who brought City the title in the unforgettable 2012 Premier league campaign. The “Agueroooo” moment will go down in the history of this league as the most competitive end of a season ever. Now City’s eyes are on the biggest prize. They’ll have the chance to finish this season in the best way possible, by winning the European cup for the 1st time in their history. And what a better way for Aguero to say goodbye to Manchester City, then winning the O’l big ears
Top 4
Battle for the 3 champions league spots was the most interesting battle in the Premier league this season. Just over a month ago 7 teams were in the fight for 3 Champions league spots. Manchester United, Chelsea, Leicester, Liverpool, West Ham, Everton and Tottenham were in a fierce competition for a top 4 spot. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were the big winners in the battle, that continued to the last day of the season. Leicester are the big loser here missing on Champions league football on the final day of the season for a second year in a row. The Foxes spent 242 days in the top 4, the most of any team in the league, but lost from Tottenham at home at the last day and will be playing Europa league again.
Leicester and West Ham will play in the Europa league. Tottenham will play in the newly formed Europa conference league. For the first time in 25 years, Arsenal won’t be playing European football. Could they possibly use this in their favour and reach higher league finish next season?
Relegation battle
This season there wasn’t any real relegation battle. Sheffield United, West Bromwich and Fulham were class behind all the other in the Premier league. The three teams spent most of the times this season at the bottom of the table. And I highly doubt the teams above them felt insecure at any point during the season. Fulham were the only team out of the bottom three who really tried to play football. Scot Parker did very good job. Cottagers had idea on how they want to play, how they want to move the ball and how they want to attack, just their players weren’t as good technically as their managers wanted them to be. We’ll keep an eye on this team and me personally can’t wait to see them in the Premier League as soon as possible.
Team of the season
For me, and probably it’s not just me the team that performed better than anyone expected was Leeds. The Peacocks returned to the Premier league after 14 long years, and they delivered. Leeds outrun every other Premier league team. They didn’t lose a single home game against the “so called big 6”. They finished 9th winning 18 games. Astonishing accomplishment for a newly promoted club. We’ll keep an eye on them next season and won’t be surprised if they better their ranking next season. Because it’s one thing to reach certain level, but it’s much harder to stay on that level or even progress.
Disappointment of the season
This “award” should be split between two teams: Leicester and Tottenham.
Leicester - as I said spent more time in top 4 than any other team. And yet they failed to secure Champions league football at the last day of the season for a second year in a row. Everything on the last day of the season went in their favour. Chelsea lost and all they should do was to not lose to Tottenham on the last day. Leicester even went ahead at some point of the game but lost the game at the end and that’s all that mattered.
Tottenham – Spurs were top of the league just before Christmas. They had Mourinho in charge and their fans were dreaming about the title. Just a week before their Carabao cup final with Manchester City, Spurs fired Mourinho and appointed Ryan Mason head-coach until the end of the season. Spurs lost the final, lost their top 4 spot, they even missed out on Europa league spot and will play in the new Europa Conference League. Harry Kane wants to leave, they are looking for new coach, the future is not looking very bright for Spurs now. Will they bounce off their problem and will we see them battling for top spots in the league soon? Daniel Levi has a lot of important choices to make.
So another Premier League season finished. It brought us joy, excitement, disappointment and a mix of so many different emotions. We lived with it, waited for every game impatiently, suffered with our team, celebrated with it. The summer will bring us more emotions. The Euros are upon us, Olympics will follow soon after. We’ll live through all the emotions with our nations again. Until the next season starts again. And we’ll go again!
